$20 million has been allocated for flashing LED 40km/h school zone signs in Western Australia.A record $20 million has been allocated to provide flashing 40 kilometre per hour signs for schools in Western Australia.

The funding will go towards installing signs in the 2015, while a further $12 million has been allocated to the project for 2016.

The 2015-16 State Budget’s allocation is to ensure that every eligible school in the region has an LED School Zone sign installed by March 2017.

“The supply and installation of these flashing signs over the next few years represents the single biggest procurement of electrical components Main Roads WA has ever undertaken,” said WA Transport Minister Dean Nalder in a statement.

According to the statement, by June 2015, more than 300 schools will have the signs in operation. Over the following two financial years, another 766 schools will have the signs operating.

The funding has come from the Road Trauma Trust Account, which is funded by fixed camera, red light and speeding fines.
