$35M announced for major Adelaide intersection upgrade

The Federal and South Australian Governments have announced $35 million dollars towards upgrading the Glen Osmond and Fullarton Road intersection.

The intersection is a major link between the Hills and the Adelaide CBD areas.

Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said the government has invested $5.3 billion to combat congestion across Adelaide and South Australia.

“This intersection upgrade will help cut travel times for motorists as well as help boost economic productivity by improved a key freight corridor,” he said.

Glen Osmond and Fullarton Roads are both key traffic and public transport corridors.

55000 vehicles pass through the intersection of the two roads daily and currently experience delays.

From 2013 to 2017 there were 34 crashes at the intersection, 11 of which were fatal.

It is hoped the upgrade will improve travel times, safety, network reliability and improve economic productivity.

Liberal candidate for Sturt James Stevens said the intersection was a major traffic choke point for local drivers and the community.

“Both Glen Osmond and Fullarton Roads are major traffic and public transport corridors and there is a real problem with traffic delays at this intersection,” said Mr Stevens.

The project will be equally funded by the Federal and state governments.

Early works are planned to start in 2020 and construction is expected to be completed in 2022.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure in South Australia will work with residents, land owners and business owners in the development process.
