$5.8 M Jetty Road contract awarded

A Western Australian company has been awarded a $5.8 million contract to complete Jetty Road causeway upgrades at Casuarina Boat Harbour.

Densford Civil successfully tendered for phase two of the upgrade, which includes the reconstruction of Jetty Road, increased parking with 164 bays, the introduction of shared paths and landscaping, construction of a multipurpose building and improvements to utility services in the area.

Premier Mark McGowan said the contract would see five south-west subcontractors, four of them Bunbury-based businesses, with a workforce of 20 engaged in the construction ahead of completion by mid-2020.

“The involvement of local contractors in the delivery of phase two work will stimulate the building and construction industry in Bunbury and across the broader south-west, and create local job opportunities,” Mr. McGowan said.

“When complete, the upgrade will encourage more tourists to visit Bunbury and help stimulate the growth of local industries.”

Essential improvements to the causeway structure were completed earlier this year as part of the $3.5 million phase one works contract, and saw an additional 24,000 tonnes of rock placed to improve protection during storm events.

A further $3 million in project funding has been spent on investigations, design and project management.
