Bianco Precast took out the title at the awards ceremony held last week in Adelaide, which recognises the top firms and individuals in Australia’s construction sector.

The award recognises Bianco Precast’s work on the Darlington Upgrade – bridge over Southern Expressway project as part of the South Australian Government’s $620 million Darlington Upgrade Project.

In what Master Builders Australia calls an Australian-first for a civil construction project of this scale, the ‘off-line’ methodology of bridge construction used for the structures involved the 3,000 tonne bridges being constructed off-site and then transported and lifted into place using self-propelled modular transporters.

According to CEO of Master Builders Australia Denita Wawn, innovation and attention to detail set Bianco Precast apart in this category.

“The client could not speak highly enough of Bianco Precast and their commitment to detail. The sheer size of each precast panel and how they were placed together on this bridge took absolute precision,” Ms. Wawn said.

Multiplex won the National Commercial Builder of the Year award for the construction of Perth’s Optus Stadium at the awards.

“Multiplex had to beat fierce competition from other outstanding construction contractors and projects from the around the country to be recognised with this prestigious Award,” Ms. Wawn said.

“With a vision of a stadium within a park, the scope of work on the project also consisted of hard and soft landscaping over an area of 41 hectares, including the design and construction of the Chevron Parkland and BHP Boardwalk and Amphitheatre to activate the area on both event and non-event days.”

New South Wales’ Mark Newman was also named Master Builders Toyota National Young Builder of Year and Northern Territory apprentice Rory Milner was named Apprentice of Year at the awards.

Queensland builder DTL Constructions took home the National Residential Builder of the Year.
