Alliance contracted for Evans Road level crossing removal

Site works have begun after the $54 million contract to remove the Evans Road level crossing was awarded.

Metro Trains Melbourne and Fulton Hogan will oversee the project to remove the level crossing and construct a road bridge.

This alliance has already removed level crossings at Grange Road in Alphington and on Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna, duplicating the Hurstbridge line.

Evans Road has been closed at the level crossing since 2005, with drivers forced to take longer detours.

The upgrade is hoped to reconnect the communities of Lyndhurst, Lynbrook and Cranbourne West and decrease travel times to get across the rail line to the South Gippsland Highway.

The design was released in March 2019, it includes the road bridge, increased planting around retaining walls, barrier installation on the west side of the bridge and a shared walking and cycling path.

The project has been fast tracked to coincide with other nearby road upgrades and is expected to be completed in 2020.
