Approval received for key Sydney corridor upgrades

One of the busiest road corridors in south west Sydney will be upgraded to improve inter-city connectivity, following analysis of public feedback.

The Horsley Drive Road upgrade will involve the construction of additional lanes between the M7 Motorway and Cowpasture Road, with a wide central median to allow for six lanes in the future.

A spokesperson for Roads and Maritime Services said the department received 33 submissions on the proposal, from the community and government agencies.

“The main comments related to traffic and access, socio-economic impacts, noise, non-Aboriginal heritage issues and utilities,” the spokesperson said.

“After considering all feedback provided, Roads and Maritime is progressing the proposed The Horsley Drive upgrade without changes.”

According to the spokesperson, Horsley Drive is one of the busiest road corridors in south west Sydney.

“It is important to ensure all road users are better connected across the region,” the spokesperson said.

“The section between the M7 Motorway and Cowpasture Road provides a strategic freight link to and from the motorway and into the Smithfield/Wetherill Park industrial area which is why this upgrade is needed.”

The spokesperson said further planning will progress to finalise the detailed design.

“The community and stakeholders are thanked for taking the time to provide feedback, and will be kept updated as plans progress.”
