Australian Government approves $11 million for Queensland sections of Outback Way

Australian Outback Way upgradesThe Australian Government announced in early April that it has approved $11 million to upgrade Queensland sections of the Outback Way.

The funds will improve access and flood immunity for outback communities, unlocking the potential benefits of the region to the Australian economy and remote communities, the Government said in a statement. The full project will upgrade sections of a series of roads that form the Outback Way, which runs from Winton in Queensland through the Northern Territory to Laverton in Western Australia.

The Australian Government has committed $33 million to this full project, which includes $20 million for the Northern Territory section, $11 million for the Queensland section and $2 million for the Western Australian section of the Outback Way. Matching funding is being provided by the State and Territory governments.

Upgrades will be progressively undertaken through to mid 2017.
