Construction begins on $7M Mowbray Connector upgrades

Construction on the Mowbray Connector Intersection upgrade has started to improve safety and traffic flow on the East Tamar Highway.

The work includes installing a roundabout, without the need for traffic lights to replace the current turning arrangement at the intersection of East Tamar Highway and Mowbray link in Tasmania’s north.

The roundabout will aim to make turning safer and easier for road users travelling in and out of Mowbray Link. It has been designed to allow traffic travelling north past the intersection to do so directly, without entering the roundabout.

Once complete a consistent 80 kilometre speed limit will be applied on the East Tamar Highway between Forster Street and Mowbray Connector (northbound) and between University Way and Forster Street (southbound).

Alongside this the state government is rolling out $51 million of Traffic Vision for Launceston and the Tamar Valley over the next five years. This will aim to see reduction in congestion, improved safety and travel reliability.

During works the highway and Mowbray Link will remain open with reduced speed limits and regular lane closure.

Work is expected to be completed by April 2020.
