The ‘Smart Cities Guide for Built Environment Consultants’ defines the functions of a smart city and provides a checklist for collaboration.A new guide has been released to help consultants understand the role of data, design and technology in designing cities.

It contrasts the difference between traditional project challenges with smart city outcomes and includes questions to help assess clients on smart city awareness, technology and strategies.

Consult Australia and the Smart Cities Council (ANZ) are behind the guide and the information within.

“As the tools for designing cities change, so too must the practices of firms in the built environment,” Chief Executive of Consult Australia Megan Motto said.

“This is in part about understanding technological advance and increasing the role of data, but it is equally about understanding the culture of collaboration and constant improvement associated with digital.”

Executive Dircetor of Smart Cities ANZ Adam Beck said the guide is more than just providing answers or signposting existing documents.

“It is a support framework for consultants and clients to both better understand how technology, data and intelligent design can enhance a city’s liveability, workability and sustainability,” he said.
