Contract awarded for Melbourne Airport works

Fulton Hogan has been awarded two construction contracts at Melbourne Airport, the Taxiway Zulu Program and the Northern Access Route Project.

The contracts form part of the broader Northern Precinct Program, which will reconfigure existing taxiways and the apron layout.

The Northern Precinct Program will provide improved aircraft movements in the vicinity of Terminal 2, prepare for a potential future third runway, establish a construction compound and provide access for current and future works on the northern side of Melbourne Airport.

The awarded project works are categorised into three phases and include a new taxiway network in the Northern Precinct totalling 270,000 square metres of paved area, master-grading of apron areas associated with the T2 Gates expansion project and associated services and utilities necessary to support development including drainage and power.

The Northern Access Route will provide entry for the construction of the Taxiway Zulu Program and any future developments in the Northern Precinct.

Scope of works include road access networks like the interface with Sunbury Road and Oaklands Road roundabout, a contractor compound or civil platform, an external access point via Gate 3 and associated services and utilities including stormwater diversions, fencing, signage, services relocations and infrastructure upgrades.

A spokesperson for Fulton Hogan said the award was the company’s eighth successive project win for Melbourne Airport developments, including the upcoming completion of the Taxiway Bravo and Foxtrot Apron Projects.

Site work is due to commence in May 2019 and is expected to be completed by September 2022.
