Contract awarded for NZ outfall pipeline project

McConnell Dowell has been awarded the design and construction contract for the Watercare Services Snells Algies outfall pipeline project in New Zealand.

The Snells Algies pipeline is set to move wastewater from Warkworth to a new Snells Beach water treatment plant, ending the discharge of treated wastewater into Mahurangi Harbour.

The design and construction contract involves 2.2km by 1.2mm pipe installation using McConnell Dowell’s direct pipe system and construction of a 4.3km by 630mm pipeline.

McConnell Dowell Managing Director for New Zealand Fraser Wyllie said the company would use its experience with marine and tunnelling projects to complete the work, citing McConnell Dowell’s record breaking direct pipe installation in Army Bay last year.

“We look forward to doing this once again at Snells Algies, applying our expertise in Direct Pipe methodology to improve water quality in the Mahurangi Harbour and deliver an upgraded wastewater system for this fast-growing region,” Mr. Wyllie said.

Design is set to commence in March with construction beginning later in the year and completion scheduled for 2021.
