Contractor progressing with Rockbank Station upgrade

The pedestrian overpass at Rockbank Station in Victoria, has been lifted into place, putting contractors in a good position to finish the upgrade this year.

In 2018, the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) named Lendlease and partners Coleman Rail and SMEC the contractors for the $551.7 million dollar upgrade of the Ballarat Line.

The Ballarat Line upgrades include the duplication of 18 kilometres of track between Deer Park West and Melton, upgrades at four stations along the line including Rockbank. A new station at Toolern, in Cobblebank, Melton South, and general track upgrades and additions along the line.

The upgraded Rockbank station will have more than 350 car parking spaces, two new platforms to accommodate six-carriage VLocity trains and better access and safety features for busses and pedestrians.

The overpass will be an accessible path with lifts and ramps for pedestrians to access both platforms at the station.

Construction of the stations began in early 2018 and the contractors are well on track to finish on time in late 2019.

“We’re upgrading every regional train line in Victoria to get people home safer and sooner, wherever they live,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

The Ballarat Line is Victoria’s second biggest regional train line.

The upgrade will aim to provide extra services in the morning and afternoon peaks and a train every 40 minutes in off-peak hours.
