Councils will now have an extra three weeks to lodge applications for the program to give them time to recover from the events.

The closing date for submissions of detailed applications for Round 3 had been pushed back from 7 April to 28 April.

“We are working to take pressure off the disaster-affected councils and this is just one more way we can help,” said Minister for State Development Anthony Lynham.

“If councils are ready to submit their applications before the closing date we encourage them to do so as soon as they are ready.”

The Building our Regions incentive is about reinvesting mining royalties into critical infrastructure that generates jobs, fosters economic development and improves liveability in regional communities.

So far, $150 million has been approved for 93 projects from Mapoon to Birdsville that will stimulate economic development and generate almost 1300 direct jobs.
