The designs for the Newcastle Inner City Bypass have been refined by NSW Roads and Maritime services for the project’s fifth stage.
Submissions received from the community and other government agencies for the bypass were taken into consideration during the exhibition of the Environmental Impact Statement for the section between Rankin Park and Jesmond.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC said the design changes include a shared path at the northern interchange for the Jesmond Park cycleway to improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, and a shared path bridge leading to an underpass of the proposed Newcastle Inner City Bypass.
“As announced last August, south facing ramps have been added at the hospital to deliver a full interchange, which would provide access in all directions between the bypass and the John Hunter Hospital precinct,” Mr MacDonald said.
The designs are available online or can be collected from Newcastle City Council and Lake Macquarie City Council.
Roads and Maritime has said it is carrying out additional investigations to prepare a submissions and preferred infrastructure report, which will document all issues raised during the EIS exhibition and provide responses. The report is expected to be released later this year.
