Downer awarded ISO 55001 certification for road maintenance

Main Roads Western Australia has awarded the five-year $188 million State-wide Electrical Infrastructure Services Contract to Venture Smart, which will commence in October.

The certification was awarded by conformity assessment body BSI Group and internationally recognises Downer’s application of its asset management practice, quality management, technical skill and improvements to maximise the value of road networks it manages.

BSI Group Australia and New Zealand General Manager – Operations and Training Chris Meehan said certification to ISO 55001 is evidence that an organisation has a management system aligned to global best practice in asset management.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Downer and shows an ongoing commitment to driving maximum value from the management of assets for their customers,” Mr Meehan said.

Downer Executive General Manager of Road Services Dante Cremasco said the company is pleased to extend its credibility in road network management, achieving Australia’s first ISO 55001 Asset Management Certification for a road network asset management system applied to a government owned asset.

“This independent certification demonstrates that we have a well-structured and robust approach to asset management and can assure our customers that we are committed to driving continual improvement and getting the best out of their networks,” Mr Cremasco said.

“By collaborating with road agencies, we are able to apply best practice to drive the performance and consistency of our networks to return as much value as possible for our customers and the public.”
