A Downer and Bombardier Transportation joint venture has delivered Perth’s final B-Series train.
The joint venture, known as EDI Rail Bombardier Transportation, designed and built 73 B-Series units for Transperth over 14 years.
Downer Rollingstock Service Head of Project Management Stephen Furlong said the B-Series trains would boost Western Australia’s commuter network capacity and provide reliable transport for the 60 million commuters who use the rail system each day.
“The B-Series fleet continues to perform well, providing enhanced availability and reliability for the Transperth network,” Mr. Furlong said.
“Our Maryborough SDC is a hub of manufacturing expertise, and the local team have once again delivered an exceptional outcome for our customer and commuters.”
Based on a local design by Bombardier, the B-Series sets were manufactured at Downer’s Maryborough Service Delivery Centre, with electrical pre-assembly work undertaken by Bombardier.
The joint venture holds the Transperth A and B-Series maintenance contract until 2026.
