Preferred proponents for WA level crossing removals announced

The contract for the first level crossing to be removed under the METRONET Level Crossing Removal Program, the Denny Avenue crossing, has been awarded to Downer EDI.

Downer EDI have been named as preferred proponent to build the major rail components.

This contract is the first of two construction packages, with the road component set to be awarded in early 2020.

Downer EDI and Decmil are currently shortlisted for the road package of works.

The Denny Avenue crossing will see a new underpass built which will involve raising the rail line and associated infrastructure and lowering the surrounding road network.

Another six level crossings along the Armadale Line are also set for removal.

Planning for these is now progressing after Jacobs was named as the preferred proponent to develop the business case.

The expanded project scope for the business case includes the crossings at Oats Street, Mint Street and Welshpool Road in one package, and Wharf Street, Hamilton Street and William Street in another.

METRONET’s Level Crossing Removal Program is expected to remove up to eight of the 31 level crossings on Perth’s network.
