Road surface improvements for Hume and Federal highways

Road re-surfacing work has started in a $4.2 million project to upgrade sections of the Hume and Federal highways between Yarra and Sutton.

On the Federal Highway work will be carried out in Yarra on the southbound lanes between Kibby Rest Area and Thornford Road and on northbound lanes between Rowes Lagoon and Wollogorang Road.

Works will also be performed on the Federal Highway in Sutton for 200 metres south of the Sutton Road bridge.

Road surface upgrades will take place on the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway between Barkers Bridge and the Federal Highway off ramp.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the work to replace the existing surface would deliver smoother, safer journeys for road users.

“The NSW Government has invested $4.2 million in the project as part of its commitment to maintain more than 18,000 kilometres of state roads,” the spokesperson said.

“Work will be carried out on weeknights between 7pm and 5am from Sunday 20 October for up to four weeks, weather permitting, to minimise impacts to motorists.”

Electronic message signs will advertise specific dates and detour information in advance.

Single lane closures, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour will be in place during work hours for the safety of workers and road users.
