Rail Projects Victoria will lead the global registration of interest for organisations interested in the future development of the Airport Rail Link, which will also form the north-western section of the Andrews Labor Government-proposed Suburban Rail Loop.

The search includes designers, engineers, rail systems providers, rolling stock providers, investors, financiers, developers and other rail infrastructure providers.

The Melbourne Airport Rail Link will also form the north-western section of the Suburban Rail Loop, an underground rail network forming a circle around Melbourne’s suburbs.

In April, the Federal Government said it would commit up to $5 billion to the project, with the Andrews Labor Government announcing in July it would match that funding commitment if re-elected.

The business case for the project is underway and the project is set to begin reconstruction by 2022 under a re-elected Labor Government.
