Safety Improvements on Healesville-Kinglike road includes speed reductionNew safety improvements are being made to Healesville-Kinglake Road, a popular Yarra Ranges tourist route, under Victoria’s Safe System Road Infrastructure Program (SSRIP).

$580,000 of funding from the SSRIP program has gone towards the work, which includes a permanent speed from 70 to 60km/h reduction between Healesville-Yarra Glen Road and Arthurs Road at Chum Creek.

The works include road widening, installing guard rail and improving road drainage.

VicRoads Metro South East Regional Director Aidan McGann said in a statement that the project will address a history of accidents in the area. From 2007 to 2012 there has been nine crashes in the area resulting in seven people suffering serious injury, said Mr. McGann.

“SSRIP allows for specific road safety improvements, with this project addressing a poor crash history that includes nine crashes where vehicles have ran off the road and seven people have suffered serious injuries in the five year period ending in 2012,” said Mr. McGann.

The works will include road widening, installing guard rail and improving road drainage.

Mr. McGann said the project will be completed by the end of June, with minimal impacts to road users.
