Ultra-fast electric vehicle charging network for Australia

Victoria’s first fully electric bus depot will be charging 27 buses in Melbourne’s north by early 2024 as part of the Victorian Government’s Zero Emissions Bus Trial.

US-based company EV Connect has announced it is joining Evie Networks, to build an ultra-fast highway charging network in Australia.

This will be the projects first phase network, aimed at connecting Australia’s capital cities.

The announcement comes after Infrastructure Australia listed electric vehicle charging infrastructure as one of the 29 high priority initiatives for Australia.

Evie Networks is an Australian company that specialises in electric vehicles, backed by the St Baker Energy Innovation fund.

It will use EV Connect’s ‘EV Cloud platform’, a specialised management platform for electric vehicle charging stations, to deploy and manage a network of 42 sites and over 80 new Tritium charging stations across Australia.

The electric vehicle charging network will be the largest of its kind in this country.

Evie Networks will leverage EV Connect’s EV charger deployment experience, its charging data analytics and station uptime management, to enable drivers, fleet owners, distributors, and retailers to go electric.

Chris Mills CEO of Evie Networks said EV Connect is the most experienced charging software developer in the market.

“We are using that expertise and the EV Connect platform to work with our partners to build a clean, safe, convenient, and dependable EV charging network across the cities, towns, and highways of Australia,” he said.

EV Connect’s collaboration with Evie Networks in Australia will help set up a seamless highway network of city-to-city transport for EV drivers and EV fleet operators by increasing the number of chargers in Australia where they are needed.

CEO of EV Connect Jordan Ramer said this is an opportunity for Australians to realise the benefits of electric vehicles.

“We have to reduce range and charging anxiety by giving drivers access to charging and information about chargers, no matter where they travel,” he said.

“We are excited to work with Evie Networks as we open the door to long-distance travel for electric vehicles by making charging more accessible and easy to use for drivers and more manageable for network operators.”
