$3.6B Queens Wharf in Brisbane on track for completion

Contractor appointed for FNQ wharf infrastructure works

Contractor appointed for FNQ wharf infrastructure worksThe relaxation of the heavy vehicle lock out period during COVID-19 is set to help with the development of the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane, Queensland.

The Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick lifted the heavy vehicle lock out periods for the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane priority development area.

Reduced restrictions mean vehicles greater than 12.5 metres in length are able to enter and exit the Queen’s Wharf area between 7.30am and 9.00am during the morning peak and then at 4.00pm and 6.30pm for the afternoon peak.

“The Queensland Government is looking at ways it can support the construction industry to ensure work continues during this difficult time,” Mr. Dick said.

“The relaxation of the lock out periods for the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane project continues our commitment in driving economic development and support construction activity in a safe and efficient manner.”

In normal circumstances Mr. Dick says the lock out periods are in place to manage peak period traffic in and out of the CBD.

“However, in these unprecedented times and with a significant reduction in CBD peak period traffic, I have lifted the heavy vehicle lock out period,” he said.

Project Director Simon Crooks said being allowed truck movements to and from the site for an extra four hours a day will allow crews to get more work done and be more efficient and productive.

“We are working hard to continue to deliver Queen’s Wharf Brisbane and this decision will greatly assist us to make sure we can keep this development on track,” Mr. Crooks said.

The relaxation of the lock out periods for the priority development area is in line with Brisbane City Council’s CBD lock out periods and will remain in place until further notice.
