Australian Government puts $53.5 Million into fixing NSW black spots

NSW Black Spot Funding

NSW Black Spot FundingThe Australian Government is putting $53.5 million in funding towards projects in NSW as part of the national Black Spot Program.

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs and Member for Calare and Chair of the NSW Black Spot Consultative Panel John Cobb announced this week that the funding would be used for 210 projects across the state.

The funding is a part of the Australian Government’s commitment of $500 million to the Black Spot Program included in the 2014 Budget.

Mr. Cobb said this investment in Black Spot projects will deliver safer roads for NSW through targeted upgrades.

“Black Spot projects target dangerous roads to save lives and reduce road trauma, ensuring Australia’s roads are made safer and more efficient for all road users,” Mr. Cobb said.

“An evaluation of the Black Spot Program has found that fatal and casualty crashes are reduced at treated sites by 30 per cent, equaling one life per year for every 84 projects. Projects also return almost $7.00 for every $1 invested by reducing the number and cost of crashes,” he said.

Individuals and community groups are encouraged to nominate black spots for consideration.
