Bendigo receives $16M construction boost

Activity in the commercial construction sector is set to have the best year in more than a decade, according to forecasts from Master Builders Australia.

The Victorian Government has announced it will invest $16 million into Bendigo’s development with a new GovHub office in the city’s CBD to bring jobs to Bendigo.

The funding will go towards securing major job boosts for Bendigo and follows planning funding included in the 2017/2018 budget.Activity in the commercial construction sector is set to have the best year in more than a decade, according to forecasts from Master Builders Australia.

The GovHub aims to bring 1000 public sector jobs to the CBD, including 100 new jobs not currently in Bendigo.

Staff from City of Greater Bendigo, Regional Development Victoria and Parks Victoria will all be based at the GovHub, as well as staff from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

Construction on the new GovHub is expected to begin next year and is due to be completed by 2021.

The Bendigo GovHub is one of three GovHub projects currently being developed, with work in Ballarat and Latrobe Valley also underway.

Victorian Minister for Major Projects Jacinta Allan said this move is a major boost for Bendigo.

“We’ve done the planning and now we’ll bring over 1,000 employees together under one roof to provide advice and help make our local economy even stronger,” Ms Allan said.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the GovHub was an investment in Bendigo’s future.

“We are giving the Bendigo CBD the boost it needs and ensuring that people continue to want to live, work and raise their families in our beautiful city,” Ms Edwards said.
