Construction begins at Perth intersection

Construction has begun on major upgrades to the Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road intersection in Perth.

In a 2017 Australian Road Research Board Report the intersection was ranked 13th most congested in the city, recording 197 crashes between 2013 to 2017 including 167 rear-end collisions.

The project is jointly funded by the Federal and State government as part of a $2.3 billion investment in road and rail infrastructure in WA.

The ‘boosting jobs, busting congestion’ package aims to improve road safety across Perth’s growing north-eastern suburbs.

Planned upgrades include the realignment of paths and pedestrian crossings, new on and off ramps with traffic signals and the construction of a bridge.

Federal Member for Moore Ian Goodenough said the works would create efficient transport linkages and reduce commuting times for residents in coastal suburbs promoting the economic development of commercial and industrial activity centres.

Construction on the interchange is set to create 350 jobs and should be completed by late 2020.

Works are being undertaken by Main Roads WA.
