Queensland-based firm Wisely Group will deliver the $2.6 million upgrade to the Evans Landing Wharf, including replacement of the wharf deck, in Far North Queensland.
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation is leading the refurbishment process on behalf of Rio Tinto, with Wisely Group undertaking the works.
According to a statement from Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey, works are expected to begin in early August and take about three months to complete.
Mr. Bailey said during the upgrade, public access and the nearby parking area will be restricted to ensure public safety.
“We recognise that Evans Landing Wharf is used by the Weipa community as a recreational facility as well as being an operational asset for the Port of Weipa,” he said.
“The Weipa community will be kept informed as the project progresses.”
