Contractor progressing with $1.6B Toowoomba Crossing

The earthworks phase of the last four-kilometre section of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing will finish in June.

Nexus Infrastructure say it is now one step closer to transforming the traffic flow in the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley regions in Queensland.

This is the final part of a $1.6 billion project for a 41-kilometre heavy vehicle route to the north of Toowoomba.

A total of six million cubic metres of material has been shifted in this section, which experienced delays due to geological issues encountered while constructing an embankment.

The construction team at Nexus has been working extended hours for 11 months to complete the section. The activities will continue around the clock until project completion.

Higher impact works will be scheduled during the day. The noise levels experienced are expected to decrease substantially as a result.

It is hoped the crossing will be open to traffic later this year.

Final activities include subgrade placement, paving, concrete barriers, line marking, drainage works, intelligent transport system installation and landscaping.

About 24 kilometres of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing opened on December 8 2018.

The Federal and State Governments jointly funded the project. Federal Government contributed $1.13 billion and State Government funded the rest.
