Downer has today announced the appointment of Mark Chellew as non-executive director and chairman-elect. He will be replacing the retiring Downer chairman Mike Harding, effective from September 1.
Chellew is currently the chairman of Cleanaway Waste Management and a director of Ampol.
He has over 40 years of experience in the building materials and related industries, including roles such as Managing Director of Adelaide Brighton and, prior to that, held executive positions at Blue Circle Cement in the United Kingdom and the CSR group of companies in Australia and the United Kingdom.
He was formerly chairman of the industry body Manufacturing Australia and is a former non-executive director of Virgin Australia and Infigen Energy.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wollongong and a Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of New South Wales.
The current chairman of Downer, Mike Harding, will retire from the board on September 30, at which time Chellew will become chairman. Harding joined the Downer board in July 2008 and became chairman in November 2010.
“I thank all of the employees of Downer for their hard work and support over the years,” Mr Harding said.
“The board thanks Mr Harding for his enormous contributions during a period in which Downer successfully navigated many challenges and achieved significant growth, and for his leadership in positioning the company for success into the future,” the Downer ASX statement said.
