Downer secures major New Zealand contract

Chorus Limited has selected Downer for a $220 million dollar contract in New Zealand.

Civil construction company Downer will work with Chorus, a New Zealand provider of telecommunications infrastructure for the construction and maintenance of its network.

The new two-year and nine-month Field Services Agreement will see Downer provide services for most of the country.

From Waikato, just under Auckland to the lower South Island, Downer will provide reactive maintenance and provisioning services, network maintenance routines, cable locates and build services.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said that the agreement would expand Downer’s delivery of extensive network maintenance and build services in New Zealand.

“Downer has a long term relationship with Chorus and our New Zealand team is the leading provider of end-to-end technology and communication solutions,” Mr Fenn said.

The contract will double the company’s geographic spread.

“We look forward to continuing our support of Chorus in the operation of its open access, national network,” Mr. Fenn said.

Downer offers an integrated civil construction, electrical, fibre, copper and radio network deployment capability throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The work will start on 1 July 2019.
