Labor commits to Linkfield Road overpass

Shadow Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese has announced in its first term, if elected, Labor will bring funding forward to allow work to begin on the Linkfield Road overpass of the Gympie Arterial Road upgrade.

Currently two lanes on Linkfield Road merge into one before drivers turn north onto the Gympie Arterial Road.

According to Mr. Albanese this is a serious choke point and a notorious traffic accident blackspot.

The strategic cost estimate for the project is $125 million, with Mr. Albanese committing $100 million in federal funding if the Labor party is elected.

“It will reduce traffic congestion for residents and boost productivity for businesses in the area,’’ Mr. Albanese said.

Labor Candidate for Petrie Corinne Mulholland said local motorists fight their way through traffic at Linkfield Road overpass everyday.

“Only a Shorten Labor Government will get this project done – cutting congestion and delivering a faster daily commute for motorists in my electorate.”

Labor candidate for Dickson Ali France said the overpass would reduce congestion for residents of Bridgeman Downs, Warner, Eatons Hill, and Strathpine, as well as businesses in Brendale.

“The big message I’m getting as I talk to people in Dickson is that they are sick of talk about traffic congestion and want action,’’ Ms France said.
