Major contractor completes Plenty Road intersection upgrade early

The intersection at McDonalds and George Roads in South Morang has now reopened. Construction to create a new median has finished ahead of schedule.

Crews worked around the clock on the Plenty Road upgrade during the summer period to widen the intersection and build a the new median in preparation for the construction of new lanes.

Decmil was awarded the contract in early 2019 for Stage two of the project including the McDonalds and George Road intersection. The reopened intersection is one of 12 intersections being upgraded in Stage two of the project.

Decmil were also awarded the contract for Stage one of the project which has been completed.

This stage also includes adding an extra lane in each direction between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road.

Major upgrades to three intersections at Bridge Inn Road and Francesca and Waterview Drives will be underway in the coming months.

An average of 35,000 people use Plenty Road between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road each day and the project will aim to bring relief to motorists using the key route in Melbourne’s north.

Works will continue on a number of separate sections to keep traffic moving and disruption to a minimum.

The Plenty Road Upgrade is due for completion in mid-2021.
