McConnell Dowell has signed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract with the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) for their Shiploader 2 and Berth 2 Replacement project (SABR), at the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay in Queensland.
The SABR project involves the complete replacement of one of the three berths and shiploaders at the Hay Point Coal Terminal.
Both the wharf and shiploader are being replaced as they have reached end of life. The SABR project will see the replacement of these facilities and will improve operability with a berth extension as well as improving storm immunity through raising the berth.
As the design engineer Aurecon and McConnell Dowell will work in collaboration with BMA in an integrated project deliver environment to optimise facility design and construction methodology. This will enable to project to be completed by 2023.
The contract will involve determining the provisions of constructability input, advice and preparatory work for construction. Aurecon, McConnell Dowell will assist with facility design, construction execution and planning and estimating and planning assistance.
