Across North Victoria, over $80 million in road maintenance is underway with approximately 515-kilometres of road being upgraded.

These include regional routes such as the McIvor Highway at Junortoun and Lancefield-Tooborac Road at Tooborac. Upgrades on the Midland Highway between Shepparton and Cosgrove South are also underway.

“We’re ensuring these vital connections are delivering smoother, stronger and safer roads for our freight industry and better journeys for the thousands of Victorians relying on our regional network every day,” said Ben Carroll, State Minister for Roads and Road Safety.

Existing works to rebuild a two kilometre stretch of the Northern Highway at Strathallan is almost complete with the $1.75 million project ensuring the road is durable and safer.

With the Northern Highway forming a key freight route between Bendigo and Echuca, an estimated 5,500 vehicles which pass through on a daily basis are expected to benefit.

Further north-east of this, a construction blitz for a $500,000 maintenance project at Kerang is getting underway this month with competition expected in June.

This is in addition to 700 metres of Airport Road being rebuilt, with a focus on improving the safety of freight drivers who carry high volumes of fresh fruit, vegetables and livestock through the area.

Pine Lodge South Road and Kay Road Works will see upgrades such as road widening, new overtaking lines, installation of flexible roadside safety barrier and a new rumble strip marking.

“These works not only deliver upgrades to regional roads – they support local jobs on the ground and businesses throughout the supply chain,” said Carroll.
