More than 80 bridges have been upgraded across New South Wales to allow for mobile cranes to travel from Western Sydney to regional NSW, increasing productivity and providing increased regional connectivity.
Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said the access helps support building essential infrastructure such as schools and hospitals.
“Bridges along Richmond Road between the M7 Motorway and Richmond as well as along the New England Highway between Beresfield and Maitland are among those now available for larger cranes to use,” Mrs Pavey said.
“It will also enable better access for the crane industry to construction sites, crane depots and key regional centres.
“Roads and Maritime Services, in partnership with the crane industry, carried out extensive bridge load testing which has enabled increased access for 3-axle, 4-axle and 5-axle mobile cranes.”
Further work is also being performed to help develop a new network for 60 tonne mobile cranes.
“These types of mobile cranes are important in providing increased reach and lift capacity for the movement and assembly of large items such as steel beams, modular buildings and concrete pipes,” Ms Pavey said.
“These changes will reduce travel times and costs for crane operators, making it easier to do business in NSW.”
