Preferred contractor announced for Richmond River Bridge

rcw-news-engineerplans-medLendlease Engineering has been named as the preferred contractor to deliver the one-kilometre-long bridge over Richmond River as part of the 155-kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina section of the Pacific Highway Upgrade.

The Richmond River Bridge is the second of two major crossings on this section of the upgrade, the other being the new Clarence River bridge at Harwood.

“We look forward to working with Roads and Maritime Services to make the Pacific Highway safer, more efficient and support regional development,” said Craig Laslett, Managing Director of Lendlease’s Engineering business, in a statement.

“Since the completion of the Tweed Heads Bypass in 1991, Lendlease has been involved with upgrading about 262 kilometres of the Pacific Highway. This work includes the Macleay River Bridge, as well as the major bridges currently being delivered over the Hastings and Wilson Rivers, between the Oxley Highway at Port Macquarie and Kundabung,” he said.

“In delivering this project, we will apply our industry-leading bridge building capability together with the expertise and local knowledge of our pre-cast manufacturing facility in Macksville.”

Construction is scheduled to commence in April 2017 and is expected to be complete in 2019, weather permitting.

The wider Woolgoolga to Ballina works involves upgrading the existing highway to a four-lane divided road, completing the final link in the duplication of the Pacific Highway by 2020.

The Australian and New South Wales governments are jointly funding the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade on an 80:20 basis.
