The Victorian Government is continuing its annual road maintenance blitz, this year with a focus on increasing the safety of Victorian roads.

At Strathallan, a $1.75 million project to rebuild a two-kilometre stretch of the Northern Highway is now complete.

The Northern Highway caters to more than 5,500 vehicles per day, serving as a critical freight route between Bendigo and Echuca.

Works are also set to begin this month on a $500,000 maintenance blitz project in Kerang, which is estimated to be completed in June.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said the upgrades and maintenance will help to keep motorists safe.

“We’re ensuring these vital connections are delivering smoother, stronger and safer roads for our freight industry and better journeys for the thousands of Victorians relying on our regional network every day,” Carroll said.

“These works not only deliver upgrades to regional roads – they support local jobs on the ground and businesses throughout the supply chain.”

More than $80 million in road maintenance is currently being delivered throughout Victoria, with an emphasis on driver safety, as well as supporting jobs.
