Transurban eliminates GPS drop outs in Brisbane tunnels

In an Australian-first 930 road navigations beacons, across 18 kilometres of tunnels have been installed in Brisbane by Transurban.

These beacons will replace GPS signals when a car hits a black spot up to 60 metres underground.

Luke Abercrombie Transurban Head of Technology Queensland said the company listened to Linkt customers feedback and have taken action to improve the driving experiences in their tunnels so motorists don’t miss an exit.

For improved navigation motorists turn on bluetooth to use Waze or Google Maps when travelling through a tunnel.

The technology emits a bluetooth signal which helps to guide the navigation systems when GPS coverage is not available.

The road navigation beacons are now operational in the AirportlinkM7, Clem7 and Legacy Way.
