Veris Australia has been awarded a $2.5 million contract to assist in the delivery of the Sydney Metro southwest upgrade.

As part of the contract, Veris will provide surveying services to the John Holland and Laing O’Rourke joint venture – contractors on the $227 million project to upgrade the 125-year-old Bankstown Line between Sydenham and Bankstown.

The contract follows Veris Australia’s involvement in the $6.7 million Sydenham Station and Junction upgrade, where the company offered a range of surveying and spatial services.

Veris Australia CEO Michael Shirley said the new contract will be an opportunity for Veris to strengthen its partnership with the joint venture.

“It’s pleasing to see the continuation of the strong relationship developed with the John Holland Laing O’Rourke joint venture,” he said.

“Providing the surveying services for the Southwest metro upgrade demonstrates our continued capacity to support the delivery of the Sydney Metro project.”

The Southwest metro upgrade will deliver upgrades to 15 bridges and underpasses, including safety screens, civil construction on retaining walls and track drainage, fencing of the rail corridor, segregation of existing freight line, new rail systems such as new track crossovers, further support for signalling and communication equipment and utility modifications.

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project.

From the north west, metro rail is being extended under Sydney Harbour, through new underground city stations and beyond to the south west.

In 2024, Sydney will have 31 metro railway stations and a 66-kilometre standalone metro railway system, revolutionising the way Australia’s biggest city travels.

Services started in May 2019 in the city’s North West with a train every four minutes at its peak. Metro rail will be extended into the CBD and beyond to Bankstown in 2024.
