The first of 350,000 limestone blocks have been laid on the Yanchep Rail Extension north of the future Alkimos Station.

In total 20 kilometres of retaining walls will be built from the limestone or recycled concrete blocks.

Retaining walls will provide a stable framework for the walls on either side of the rail line in the cutting underground.

In Butler construction of the road-over-rail bridges has also begun. These structures will help to enable a safe crossing of the rail for people and fauna.

Traffic diversions, service relocations, piling and excavation will get underway at bridge locations between Butler and Yanchep.

In an attempt to minimise community impact some of the bridges will be build using a ‘top-down’ method, which uses a smaller area for construction.

This way, existing roads will become road-over-rail bridges, the walls are first installed, the road is then upgraded to a bridge deck and then construction continues underneath to excavate the land.
